How the Regulator’s functions affect members of the public
The Regulator's functions support the recovery of people injured in motor vehicle accidents and protect motor vehicle owners against the financial impact of causing personal injury to other road users.
Public participation in formulating policies and the delivery of the Regulator’s functions
The Regulator invites public consultation on significant policies and initiatives.

Documents held by the Regulator
The Regulator’s obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 1991 (FOI Act) have been varied by the FOI Exempt Agency Regulations.
This means the Regulator does not release:
- information relating to a claim or action under Part 4 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1959
- information gained under Part 3 section 17 (1) of the Compulsory Third Party Insurance Regulation Act 2016 that:
- could affect the competitive position of an insurer or other person or
- is commercially sensitive for some other reason.

Making an application for access to records and to amend records
An application for access to the Regulator’s documents must be made in writing and in accordance with the FOI Act. Applications must be accompanied by the fee, unless a fee waiver applies. See further information on Freedom of Information application requirements.

If your application results in release of documents, either in whole or in part, you will be provided with details where the documents can be viewed; or copies will be provided to you. If your application is refused, in whole or in part, you will receive a letter explaining the decision.
