It can seem surprising at first, but evidence shows that understanding how pain works can improve your recovery. The video below, created by pain researcher Dr Joshua W. Pate, aims to provide you with a better understanding about the science of pain, the types of pain experiences and the influence of the biological, psychological and social factors on pain experiences.
South Australian researchers have asked over 800 people who have recovered from chronic pain about the most important things to learn. They are called the essential pain facts:
- Pain protects us and promotes healing
- Persisting pain overprotects us and prevents recovery
- Many factors influence pain
- There are many ways to reduce pain and promote recovery.
