Telehealth conferencing for Pure Mental Harm Injury Scale Value Medical assessments

The COVID 19 pandemic has led to the trial use of telehealth conferencing for pure mental harm GEPIC assessments where it is safe and clinically appropriate to do so. The trial commences on 13 July 2020 and concludes on 13 October 2020.

To support this, at the approval of the Attorney General, the MAIAS has introduced an update to MAIAS Rule 6 - Service Standards. The new rule specifies the need to comply with a telehealth protocol that outlines an Accredited Medical Practitioner’s obligations in preparing and performing these assessments and the appropriate circumstances in which to do so. Accredited Medical Practitioners must use the Telehealth ISV GEPIC Assessment Template.

The trial includes an evaluation that focuses on the claimant’s experience in using this process to inform the decision about the ongoing use of telehealth services for GEPIC assessments. To assist with this evaluation, please notify us at MAIAS@sa.gov.au of all telehealth assessments booked or completed during the trial period.
