Firstly, I’d like to acknowledge the challenging times we are all experiencing with the COVID-19 virus, adjusting to new ways of working while maintaining services. My focus continues to be on the injured person experiencing the best possible support and service from the scheme.

As Regulator of the privately underwritten CTP Scheme, my office is in constant contact with the CTP Claims Managers of AAMI, Allianz, SGIC and QBE.

All CTP Insurers are reporting no disruptions to their business.

No insurers are conducting business face to face. All have commenced operating remotely with staff working from home and providing services to claimants and progressing claims through to settling claims via all other channels - phone, letter, email, video conferencing.

I am aware that interstate Accredited Medical Practitioners (AMPs) can no longer proceed with conducting ISV Medical Assessments (ISVMAs) in South Australia due to the restrictions of entry to the State.

I am monitoring whether this could create a barrier to settling a claim if an ISVMA is unable to be conducted because of low availability of AMPs, and considering possible alternatives while still working with the legislation and Court Rules. I will keep you updated.

I would like to make clear that assessments via telepresence are not to proceed at this time and I have communicated this to all CTP Insurers.

We are currently checking the availability of all AMPs to conduct business as usual in SA. The central register available for all on the MAIAS web page (https://maias.sa.gov.au/) will be updated to provide details of AMPs currently conducting business as usual.
